Mount Rushmore
Mount Rushmore National Memorial - is a monumental granite rock, which is located in South Dakota, USA. Gore is known for its granite rock carved giant sculptural portraits of four U.S. presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The height of each person about 18 meters and width of the entire sculpture 122 meters. Work on the creation of figures were from 1927 to 1941. Sculptor Borglum Gatzon kompanda and his aides out of 400 people carved into the rock a huge head, blasting rock with dynamite, and then to give them the necessary form, chiseled face with a chisel and hammer.


Memorial frantic horse
Approximately 15 kilometers south-west of Mount Rushmore is a memorial to a violent (Mad) Horse. This is the world's largest memorial dedicated to the late Indian leader frenzied horse and carved from solid rock. Construction of this gigantic statue started in 1948 by sculptor Korczak of Polish origin Zyulkovski. When the creator of the famous sculpture died in 1982, and before he could bring to fruition his grandiose plan, his wife and children continue the work undertaken. If all the same someday a monument will be completed, its width will be 195 meters and a height of 172 meters. At the moment of the entire statue is the only person rider, finished in 1998.




Stone Mountain

America is the birthplace of another legendary granite carved work - Stone Mountain, located in Georgia. This bas-relief sculpture of three leaders of the Confederacy: President Jefferson Davis, General Robert Edward Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The height of the granite sculpture 58 meters and width of 93 meters.

 
Bamianskie Buddha statue
Afghanistan was once home to two huge Buddha statues in Bamianskoy Valley, less than 200 kilometers northwest of Kabul. They were carved in the very sandy hills about fifteen hundred years ago, a height of 55 and 37 meters respectively. But both figures were savagely destroyed in 2001 by the Taliban, who considered that they were pagan idols, and must be destroyed.



Big Buddha
Big Buddha statue in Leshan, Sichuan, China, is the most striking property of a Buddhist temple, built in the first century. Sitting Buddha carved from the mountainside in the eighth century, its height reaches 71 meters and width 28 meters. His smallest toe is large enough even for one person, one can only imagine the huge size of this sculptural work.


 Statue Detsebala

The tallest sculpture in Europe, carved into the rock, is a statue of Detsebala, Dacian king (86 - 106 years. n. e). This creation is located on a rocky bank of the river Danube, near the town of Orsova, Romania. Sculpture, whose height is 40 meters, was completed only five years ago.



The Great Sphinx of Giza
Far more ancient and famous statue is the Great Sphinx of Giza. It is believed that the Sphinx was carved out of limestone about 2500 years before Christ was born. The height of the world-famous statue of a reclining lion with a human head, reaches 20 meters, width - 73.5 meters. This sculptural work like no other, surrounded by many mysteries and legends.




Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel - a rock, which are carved two famous ancient Egyptian temple, located in southern Egypt. The temples were carved into the limestone rocks around in the 13 century BC In 60-ies of the temples at Abu Simbel were carefully sawn and transferred to a new location due to construction of the Aswan Dam. The four statues of Ramses II, each of which is 20 meters tall, decorated the main entrance to the temple.
 


City of Petra
Petra is in Jordan, at 660 meters above the surrounding terrain, the Arava Valley. It is believed that city from 2000 to 4000 years of it even mentioned in the Old Testament. This mysterious place was discovered by Ludwig Swiss Burghart. Today in Petra discovered palaces, temples, tombs, ancient theater, and numerous other buildings, very well preserved to our time, and all carved in stone.
